Tarifa is situated on the most southern
tip of Spain, just 20 miles across the Straits of Gibraltar to Africa.
Because of Tarifa's
position it is constantly buffered
by two conflicting winds: the Levante from the east and the Poniente from
the west. There's not often a day without wind in Tarifa and it is because
of this that Tarifa has become the windsurfing
capital of Europe. The town itself has unique charm and
an excited buzz. It is full
of unpretentious cafes and bars which come alive in the
evenings.
Highlights
Tarifa beach is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled
beaches in Europe, white sand and an enormous 12km in length. This

Windsurfing and kite surfing are the most obvious
activities in Tarifa - you can rent windsurfing or kite surfing equipment from
any one of the many surf schools.
Horse-riding is also popular and Tarifa's
pleasant beaches and undeveloped environment make it an ideal activity.
There's a number of great trails to explore on horseback and you can
organise your ride through any of the major hotels in town (see Activities)
Mountain biking is developing in the
area with the Animal Academy Tarifa now developing downhill trails on the
hills to the north of Tarifa. They also have top end mountain bikes to rent.
The Straits of Gibraltar offer some fantastic sites for scuba diving at
different depths. There are two certified dive
schools in the area and a number of outfitters who will arrange your diving
trip for you.

excitement of Marbella and Puerto Banus or even catch a ferry to Morocco for
